We Went Viral for Our Woodgrain Steel Over a Year Ago — and People Are Still Talking About It
Woodgrain steel siding has taken the metal building world by storm — and it’s not just a trend. What started as curiosity has become a game-changer for aesthetics in metal construction. Gone are the days when metal siding meant only basic colors. Today’s technology lets you have authentic wood looks, deep grain detail, and architectural style — all with the unmatched durability of steel.
Let’s break down how it’s made, why it’s turning heads, and answer a few FAQs we get all the time.
How It’s Made: From Coil to Beautiful Panels
The magic happens before we ever form panels:
🔹 Printed at the Coil Level
The woodgrain image isn’t sprayed on after panels are formed, it comes that way right from the coil.

Here’s the process in a nutshell:
-
Real Material Imaging – High-resolution scans of real wood (or other textures) form the basis of the design, capturing authentic grain, knots, and tones.
-
HD Digital Coil Printing – This print transfers the detailed image directly onto steel coils with millions of colors and much greater depth than traditional methods.
-
Protective Coating – A clear, durable protective layer is applied so the surface can withstand the elements for years, the coating is UV cured to make it extra long lasting for whatever mother nature throws its way.
-
Panel Forming – Once printed, the coil arrives to us flat. We then roll-form it into siding panels of your chosen profile here at Indiana Metal.
This digital print process isn’t just pretty — it’s a real innovation in metal siding that allows for longer image repeats and much more authentic visuals than older printing methods.

FAQs We Get All the Time
Do we print it here?
Nope, the coil comes printed in flat coil from the mill with the woodgrain already on it. Once we receive that printed coil, we form it into siding panels just like any other metal product we fabricate.
What is the warranty?
For vertical applications (where these woodgrain patterns are typically used), the warranty is 20 years, a solid commitment that this product is built to last.
Will it fade?
Any exterior product exposed to sun will experience some fading over time. But this steel has been tested under real conditions, and the digital printing technology used here is the first of its kind, designed specifically to hold up better against UV exposure and keep colors true for years.
Why Everyone’s Talking About It
This isn’t just metal siding in a new color, it’s a whole new look for steel. Long gone are the days of limited standard hues and flat finishes. Today, woodgrain steel siding offers:
-
Design freedom — authentic textures and visuals that rival natural wood
-
Durability — steel that resists rot, insects, and moisture
-
Low maintenance — no painting, sealing, or staining required
-
Architectural appeal — perfect for board-and-batten, barndominiums, shops, homes, and more
We’re proud to offer products that push metal forward, blending innovation, durability, and design in ways the industry hasn’t seen before. Woodgrain steel is just one example of how the future of metal is being built today.
